Character Name: Qiu Zilong
Country: Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China
Age: 14
House: Ravenclaw (first)
Gender: Male
Personality: Hong Kong has a blunt and very sarcastic personality. He likes to manipulate people or respond to them in a very, very deadpan manner. He is a trickster, often leading himself into trouble. Although, he is very thankful that the school has not expelled him yet.
Hong Kong is an intelligent person, but slacks off on everything sometimes. He can be very competitive during Qudditch matches, if he is given a role. He aims to be a dragon master/dragonologist, since it was pretty much his forte.
Background:
Qui was born into a pureblood family, but he lived in an average life. He wasn't too poor or too rich, he did not get what he want, but was taught patience instead. He worked beside his father as a restaurateur in Diagon Alley in a small restaurant called "The Phoenix's Nest", that serves more exotic cuisine from the Eastern regions of the world from his father's travels with Muggles.
He has no grudge or hate for Muggles, although the Zilong family had used this opportunity to find security to hide from the Wizarding world where Purebloods were posted as threats. Qui was afraid, everyone was afraid, why would in the world turn into this? But Qui's father was an optimistic person, he had channeled the boy's fear and taught him to conquer it gradually, oddly in cooking. In fact, his father took him to his travels one time and took him to stay with muggles in China to learn their art of cooking. He had traveled from Guangzhou to Sichuan provinces. Together with his father had learned about the Four Great Traditions (Cantonese, Huaiyang, Shandong, and Szechuan) and Eight Great Traditions (Anhui, Cantonese, Fujian, Hunan, Jiangsu, Shandong, Szechuan, and Zhejiang) types of cooking.
During hiding, he was taught a few magical tricks or two of the basic classes by his parents. Although they kept it secret, knowing that this may cause the end of their family. Qui was confident and had learn a bit on his own, but his parents helped him correct the error of his ways as much as they can and in hiding.
His informal training was halted when he was sent away to Hogwarts to learn and practice his magical prowess and no one would think of him as a squib, a brand he does not want to have and at the same time, dishonor his family. This also jeopardized his security as well as his family's; but he wanted this, he wanted to hone his skills as a wizard and doesn't want to waste his grace-given gifts. During testing, he showed prowess at Care for Magical Creatures, as well as Arithmancy and Divination. An odd mix of sorts.
At Hogwarts, he was not the sharpest tool in the bunch, but had a thing or two about learning. He climbed up his grades, despite he can be quite lazy on things. But hey, school is school.
RP Sample:
Qui looked bored while looking at the meal they're having at the Great Hall. He pursed his lips, trying not to remember the tastes of the chilies and peppercorns in his father's cooking. He had missed the Ma Bo tofu, the meatbuns and the dumplings that welcomed him home whenever he comes back during break from school. "Accio," he muttered low under his breath. "baozi."
"Accio! Baozi." He continued to repeat in his mind. "Accio! Baozi. Accio! Baozi. Accio! Baozi!"
Still, there was nothing. Besides, it was rather forbidden to use the summoning charm technique to summon food.
He sighed, settling on the rather rich and deep and rather repetitive flavors of the dishes served in the house. The duck was doused in an herb sauce, the potatoes smothered in herb gravy and the side of vegetables with garlic butter never satisfied him unlike his peers. Still, he just closed his eyes and ate, but he still wants the food from home.
