Character Name: Arthur John Kirkland
Country: England
Age: 34
Position: Potions Master and Head of Ravenclaw House
Gender: Male
Personality: Studious by nature, Arthur likes to be left to his personal studies and not be disturbed, except perhaps by a house elf bearing a cup of freshly brewed Earl Gray. His passion for potion making is rather renowned around Europe (especially in the school, where he will likely force feed you poison you brew yourself if you diss potion making... or his eyebrows).
While he is usually calm and controlled and hard to rattle, if you insult his eyebrows (a sore subject due to the curse that caused them) he is liable to curse you to oblivion. It's a very touchy subject, one that all the students (except for two) learned early on.
He is a very literate person, and enjoys reading almost as much as he enjoys brewing his potions (especially if the books are old books on potion brewing from before the ban). If left to his own devices, despite how very little often this is, he will relax by the fire with a cup of Earl Gray and a book and read.
He is good friends with most of the House Elves that were reinstated at Hogwarts, and his students know him as fair - as long as you behave, you'll stay on his good side and your learning experience will be much more pleasant.
He returns home to his family often, his four younger siblings (one, 20 year old Peter, practically an overgrown son to him by now) being of large importance in his life. This author likes to think his four siblings are Ireland, Wales, Scotland, and Sealand. While his parents are not alive anymore (they passed under Pangaea), his family is still the most important thing to him.
He is single and does not approve of the prospect of having to, as he calls it, 'submit to Darwinization and mate.' His first and foremost goal in life is to pass on knowledge like a good little Ravenclaw. His disposition is normally pleasant and relaxed, and students are welcome to speak with him for any amount of time about academic pursuits, but as soon as things turn personal he will dismiss them.
Background: Arthur Johnathan Kirkland was the first born into a family that eventually housed five children. His first three siblings came shortly after he did, and his fourth sibling came shortly before Pangaea came into power. His parents were both Purebloods, but not from very notable or wealthy families, and they struggled to get by most days due to their four - later five - children. Arthur was taught early on that he would not be favored as the first child.
He grew up a rather short child, and it became apparent early on that he had (unfortunately) inherited his fathers 'bushy brow syndrome', the result of a curse placed on his father's family fairly far back that almost every male in the line would have very bushy eyebrows. Teased and bullied at an early age for his large eyebrows and his short stature, the blond boy produced his first bout of accidental magic defending himself from a bully that wanted to 'hang him by his knickers from a tree'.
He entered Hogwarts in 2011, two years before what would eventually be the chaotic portion of the history this plot revolves around. It should also be noted that James Sirius Potter would have started Hogwarts in 2015, and Albus Severus would have entered in 2016, had it not been for the incident that sent all of them to the mountaintop Institute of Pangaea.
He was the top of his class in potions for the three years that he did attend Hogwarts, under the watchful tutelage of Silvia Hertstrall, the Potions Master after Slughorn's second retirement. Then 2014 came around, and schools were banned under Pangaea, and he was sent to the Mountaintop Institute.
He was lucky enough, and unlucky enough, to witness the attempt to end the reign of Pangaea when he was thirteen, and also witnessed the legendary "Fall of Harry Potter".
While at the Mountaintop Institute, he hid his exceptional potions talents and kept his head low, trying not to draw attention to himself. He formally met James Sirius Potter in his fifth year, as what would have amounted to a Prefect greeting a new student, and then got to know Albus Severus in his sixth and seventh years. He stood in as almost a mentor for the two students, having been sympathetic to the 'loss' of their father.
The duo never said anything on the subject, and while he did meet Lily Luna Potter after he graduated the Mountaintop Institute, he never got much closer to the family. Mrs. Ginny Potter invited him to dinner a few times, and there he met Teddy Remus Lupin once again (the boy had been a fourth year when he was in his first).
He went into a sort of hiding from Pangaea when the prosecution of potion-learners began, and studied independently using the by-then thriving Black Market of Potions Supplies. His hiding continued for nearly the entire time until 2033, when Pangaea was defeated. Then he returned to normal society, a self-trained Potions Master, and taught students who wanted to learn.
When the school reopened in 2034, he immediately signed up to be Potions Master. As he was one of the first four teachers to be hired, he was given the position Head of Ravenclaw house, which suited him just fine as he had been a Ravenclaw in school.
He didn't anticipate having 'The Hero' himself in one of his classes. Or that the Transfiguration teacher would be the biggest man-slut in the history of Wizardkind.
Maybe he shouldn't have done this.
RP Sample: The pages of the book he was working from fluttered in the slight heat of the lowly burning fire, and he flickered his green eyes toward it before returning them to the bubbling concoction in the cauldron he was working at. He wiped his rather notable brows of the sweat forming there and added precise measurements of the right ingredients.
Arthur Kirkland was proud of his Potions skills. He was the best potion maker since even before the "Pangaea Incident" had happened, possibly since the last Potions Teacher at Hogwarts, Professor Silvia Hertstrall. (Made her up, kay thanks bye) And he was rather proud of what he was doing - his latest project, of sorts - recreating potions that hadn't been in use for over twenty years, based on the books he had bought and hidden when he was younger.
He glanced at the book again, carefully cutting up the Balboa root in precise, 3/4 centimeter by 3/4 centimeter by 3/4 centimeter cubes, and tossed it into the potion to stir again. This was possibly his most anticipated potion to recreate yet - The Draught of Living Death.
He tried not to think about the time slipping away, the dwindling free time before his next class was due to appear. He tried not to think of the two notable loudmouths of that class that would probably stroll in arguing with each other. He tried not to think of the likely explosion that would occur during that class, as an explosion always did, when one or the other of those two loudmouths would attempt to sabotage each other.
He had to focus. This potion could be very disastrous if not brewed correctly, according to his fourth year notes, and one mistake could cost him, or anyone who tried this potion, their life.
Focus.
The door slammed open as he held the last and most important ingredient over the cauldron, waiting for the potion to turn a deep hunter green before he could add it. Two loud voices accompanied the door slamming, arguing (predictably) and startling him out of his concentration. The ingredient dropped into the potion...
Early.
The inevitable explosion, thankfully, did not catch his face directly. He felt the flames reach up, scorching at his hair and singing his eyebrows almost cleanly off his face, and then came the prolonged silence. And then...
...the dreaded laughter.
I am going to roast those two bloody nitwits alive and use their innards for potion making.
Notes:[/u] Arthur's App... was an absolute DICK. I spent an hour on the first edition, then lost it, and spent TWO HOURS on this one. YOU ALL BETTER APPRECIATE THIS FUCKING THING.
(PS: I WANT TO BE A MOD BECAUSE OF THIS)
