Character Name: Yekaterina “Katyusha” Braginski
Country: Ukriane
Age: 17
House: Hufflepuff
Gender: Female
Personality: First impressions aren't Katyusha's strong point. She's terrible at making strong first impressions on people and most of the time a first meeting with her isn't the easiest thing to remember. In fact, the only thing she's remembered for around the school is the size of her chest. Many of the students will comment that she's very one sided and airheaded while the ones in her house will comment that she's nothing more than a big breasted crybaby. These ideas of her all come from the fact that she's extremely shy and has problems talking to just about anyone other than the few people who know her well enough. Like her sister, she has trouble talking and interacting with other people, but she truly wishes she could figure out how to talk to people. Unlike her siblings, she has problems trying to convince anyone to do anything for her and is a bit of a pushover. She's also far easier to talk to and be around her than her siblings, despite how shy she is and once she trusts you enough she's a friend forever.
Even though she has trouble speaking with just about everyone, she is extremely kind, caring, and mothering to all the people around her. This can end with her sticking her nose where it doesn't belong and getting hurt, but more often it ends with her helping others when she really should be helping other people out. She's always trying to be sure the people that are close to her are happy, even when she herself is miserable. This is perhaps her best quality, not only being something that everyone else loves but being something that she likes about herself. Sadly, this is a trait that sometimes causes problems with her and her father, as being kind to everyone is not something that is usually valued by a pureblood family. She doesn't mind that it bothers her father though, as she believes that it's better to be nice to everyone than force people to follow you, which is just one of her many naive views on life. The other main naive ideal is her vivid optimism (or at least it's more optimism than pessimism), which conflicts with the personalities of her family members.
She is very family centered and loves her siblings more than just about anything in her life, especially her younger brother. She is willing to do anything for the two of them, including giving up her dreams and hopes to make sure they're happy at least in some way. She's very unlucky and extremely clumsy, often experiences bouts of back pains and is prone to crying when overcome. She is actually very good with magic and loves both Herbology and Transfiguration.
Background: Yekaterina, or Katyusha as she prefers, is the first child of Alexei and Tatyana Braginski and her birth was greatly celebrated among both sides of her family. She was a big and healthy baby with vivid blue eyes and very light blond hair. Upon her birth, she was given the name Yekaterina in honor of her great-grandmother on her father's side, who had passed a week before the girl's birth and had been a strong and powerful witch. This name was given in hopes that the baby would turn out as strong and powerful as her namesake, unfortunately the hopes and prayers would fall on deaf ears. Thankfully, another child was born within a year that would surely make up for Katyusha's failures. Ivan was born nearly a year after the Braginski's first child and his birth was far more celebrated than Katyusha's, not that the one-year-old minded much, the attention was far too much for her to handle anyway.
The two children grew up fairly spoiled but not at all poorly behaved. They had all the toys a child could want, house elves to clean up after them, a large estate for them to run around and enjoy, and some of the best caretakers and tutors in Eastern Europe. Their families had high expectations of them and were rather strict but the two children were given everything the needed to succeed and meet these expectations. The only thing they didn't have were parents who constantly gave them attention, if only because Alexei and Tatyana were constantly busy with their work and social lives. Not having parents who were there for them, Katyusha became more of a mother to Ivan than any of their nurses and because of the responsibilities she became softer than her brother was and became prone to having emotional breakdowns. The traits together made her something of a disappointment to her family, who had expected her to be strong and emotionally controlled. Being a disappointment wasn't that big of a setback for Katyusha who was still loved regardless of how poorly she lived up to her name.
When she was twelve, her half-sister Natalya was brought into the family and Katyusha instantly accepted her. She gave Natalya a great deal of her attention, but still focused much more of her time on Ivan who at that point was extremely precious to her. She supported both of her siblings through everything and eventually had to help them all through Tatyana's death when Katyusha herself was only fourteen. Not only did she have to help her siblings, but she also had to help her father through the event and eventually rose above her family's demands of her in ways that many of them couldn't really understand. Regardless of her rather distant family members, she became very important to her closer family members, especially her father, who viewed her far differently after Tatyana's death than he did before her death.
Katyusha was actually fairly clueless to most of the happenings in the world and didn't quite know what to think of Pangaea other than as a ruler and queen. She knew that she was never of much use to the woman her parents had followed so loyally and was more ashamed of his fact than she was of the fact that she wasn't what her family had hoped. She is almost excited about the fact that she will be able to study things other than the Dark Arts at Hogwarts and hopes she will be able to make friends for reasons other than her family line. If anything, she hopes not to embarrass her brother by how weak she tends to seem.
RP Sample: There was a howling of the wind that wasn't unfamiliar to the seventeen-year-old, though the addition of the rain was a new addition as she herself was much more accustom to the howling mixed with snow. In Scotland, however, it didn't snow quite as much as it rained and the rain was loud and rather obnoxious and it happened all the time.
On top of this, it kept Katyusha from being outside, which was rather annoying.
She stared out the window near the table she was sitting at in the library with rather dull eyes. There was no real point in studying because it was the weekend and she dearly wanted to be outside or at least to know where her brother and sister had gotten off too. Maybe even to be with them at that point instead of sitting alone in the library with nothing but books and the rather awkwards stares she recieved from her peers. The eyes on her made her face a slight shade of pink and it made her feel very anxious and when one of the boys in her year, from Ravenclaw house, came over and tried to talk to her, she only went a deeper shade of red.
"What are you reading, Katyusha?"
"C-Charms book." She couldn't ever manage to get out a response that was more than two words when someone tried to talk to her. Or that's what it felt like.
"Ohhhh! Well, I was wondering if, when the rained stopped, you'd like to hang out with me?"
Her eyes widened and she grabbed her books, rising to her feet. "I-I have to go." Was the only response she could manage as she ran from the room with her books clenched tightly to her chest.
Why was she so terrible at this?
